Kembe-Nakando Fm

Period:
Cryogenian

Age Interval:
late Cryogenian

Province:
Northern Congo Margin

Type Locality and Naming

Located within the Fouroumbala-Bakouma basins of the south-western CAR. The Neoproterozoic sedimentary rocks exposed on northern margin of CS are recognized in the Ubangui and Fouroumbala-Bakouma basins of the south-western CAR, and in the Lindi Basin of the northeastern DRC, Trompette (1994) considered all these basins to be part of the Lindi Basin.

Synonym: Kembé-Nakando Subgroup

Reference: Trompette(1994)

Lithology and Thickness

Consists of deltaic and neritic shale, sandstone-quartzite and conglomerate with more than 1000m thickness in lithology

Lithology Pattern:
Sandy Claystone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies the siliciclastic Bougboulou Fm

Upper contact

Overlain by the Bondo Tillite at the base of the Bakouma Fm

Regional extent

Extend in the Northern margin of CAR. Fouroumbala-Bakouma basins of the south-western CAR, and in the Lindi Basin of the northeastern DRC. Trompette (1994) considered all these basins to be part of the Lindi Basin.
